Preparing Our Teachers   Written Sept. 2006

The descrepency between the haves and have nots in school funding is
f'ed.  But CPS must do a better job spending the money they have.  The
biggest problem with our "Neighborhood" Schools is NOT money, its
DISCIPLINE.  When teachers report tomorrow, they will sit in various
professional development sessions targeting instructional strategies.
WHY???  Teachers know how to teach, but few have the ability to
manage the disobedient and disrespectful kids in their classrooms.
Additionally, they lack the skills to deal with the ignorant acting parents
as well.  Yeah I said it!!!  So instead of telling teachers things they
already know, try assisting them with things that they don't.

Changing Our Schools:  We need to do away with all of our k-8 schools.
Our kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders should be in one school.  Put
3rd through 5th in another, and have a school for our 6-8 graders.  What
happens in Chicago?  Our little kids see the olders kids act a complete
fool, and think that is they way a student should act in school.  They split
'em up in the suburbs, why not in the city.
