The Lack of Black Male Leadership in America
The DON IMUS STORY
Here we go again, attacking someone else because of racial derogatory remarks. While I do NOT
condone what Don Imus has said, I personally feel that we, as BLACK FOLKS, put to much
emphasis on what a "white" person has said about us. Now our so called, "Black Leaders" are
calling for his job. It is my opinion that we are attacking the wrong enemy.
If you haven't heard about this here is basically what happened in a nutshell...
The Rutgers basketball team, which includes eight black women, had lost the day before in the
NCAA women's championship game. Imus was speaking with producer Bernard McGuirk about
the game when the exchange began on "Imus in the Morning." The show is broadcast on more
than 70 stations and MSNBC, which is owned by General Electric Co.'s NBC cable unit.
"That's some rough girls from Rutgers," Imus said. "Man, they got tattoos ... ."
"Some hardcore hos," McGuirk said.
"That's some nappy-headed hos there, I'm going to tell you that," Imus said.
Jesse Jackson and others want to boycott NBC and anyone else who broadcasts Imus's show.
Yet we do nothing to our musical entertainers who continually call OUR BLACK WOMEN bitches
and hoes. We do NOT boycott BET who shows hundreds of videos by these artist portraying
OUR BLACK WOMEN in negative ways. We do nothing to the countless radio stations who
funnel these lyrics into the minds of our children.
We have children who can easily, "Pop, Lock, and Drop it" or recite the words to just about any
rap song, but ask them their times tables. Ask them what a verb is?
Hey Mr Jackson and Mr. Sharpton, lets take care of business in house. We only see you when it
is a BLACK vs. White problem. Our biggest problem is not black and white, it is BLACK and
BLACK. Lets tackle some of the concerns that plague our community. I'm sickntied of seeing
you guys jump out at an easy target.
There are more black men in prison than in college. More than half of the students in Black high
schools drop out. Just 50 years ago, BLACKS were beaten when trying to get an education. It is
blatantly obvious, that WE do NOT put the same value on education.
What are you guys gonna do about parents who have children who can't read, but yet instead of
buying them, "Hooked on Phonics" or some other reading tutorial program, get them the latest
Jordan's or Baby Phat outfit.
Yes my friends that target is in plain view, but are we gonna shoot at it, or will we continue to pick
on something that has absolutely no affect on the upward mobility of BLACK PEOPLE!!!
