Why Did I Get Married Too?

F
irst I must say that I did enjoy the movie.  Although it was not as entertaining as the original,
the sequel, nonetheless had its share of intrigue and laughter.  Below I have decided to
provide a brief character analysis based upon the roles that were played in the movie.  To
view a picture/synapsis of any star simply click on their name.  If you have not seen the
movie, it would be best if you refrained from reading further.  Check back when you have
seen the movie.

Janet Jackson as Patricia: Tyler could've had her looking much sexier than the character she
portrayed.  She was the typical controlling, domineering sista that has trouble getting and/or
keeping a strong black man.  Her "I wear the pants in this relationship attitude" caused her to
lose a good man.  I applaud Tyler however, because he did a great job of staying away from
their relationship in both movies until absolutely necessary.

Malik Yoba as Gavin:  He was Patricia's husband.  Of all the men that I've spoken with, I can't
find any that wouldn't have found humor in the "Sissy jumpin' outta da cake" scene.  Most
men would NOT storm out of their office, hop in their car, and drive off.  Then only to race out
blind into oncoming traffic.  Perhaps a soft man would, but certainly not the men I know.  The
average man would have taken his wife aside and talked to her in private.  Not runaway like a
little bitch.

Jill Scott as Sheila:  Her scenes were powerful, especially the kitchen scene at the resort with
her ex-husband.  At first I disagreed with her going to him to get help in finding a job for Troy.
But after thinking about it, I like the move.  Despite his many problems, he was able to help.
She did what a GOOD CHRISTIAN WOMAN should do in this situation.  In addition, I also like
the fact that she stood by Mike once she discovered he had cancer.  Despite how he has
treated her in the past.

Richard T. Jones as Mike:  His showing up at the resort was certainly unexpected and
certainly not what a normal black man would do.  Furthermore, his role in the first movie was
outta whack as well.  I can easily see the in the follow-up to this movie, Shelia having
problems in her marriage and slippin off her Christian rock and sleeping with Mike.  Mike's
role in the film was a little hard to believe.

Lamman Rucker as Troy:  I love the way Tyler produced this character.  His statement during
the card game to Mike was on point.  His conversations with his wife, Shelia, were as well.
The only thing I disagree with was his jumping to conclusions when he discovered Shelia at
Mike's house.  A heated conversation with Shelia about why she was there should have
happened first.

Sharon Leal as Dianne:  This is Terry's wife.  I had no problems with her role.  But she, being
closest to Patricia, should have seen what Patricia was going through and spend more time
talking and listening to her.  Her "affair" with the mythical Phil, was well planned by Tyler the
producer.  And Tyler did a wonderful job dropping hints throughout the movie.  I love the
quote from her husband concerning how a woman loves.  It was so TRUE!!!

Tyler Perry as Terry:  A Punk-ass man.  He bitched and cried all during the first movie about
his woman not spending time with him, and how bad he wanted kids.  Now during the second
movie he's quoting dates about when he has noticed changes in his wife.  He needs a
hobby.  Something to occupy his time.  No man in his right man is gonna remember those
dates.  Shit, most of us have a hard time remembering our anniversary.

Tasha Smith as Angela:  Her role in the film was strictly one of comic relief.  No sista in her
right mind is ever gonna act like that.  But I must say jealousy in a relationship, once a brotha
gets back on his feet, is likely.

Michael Jai White as Marcus:  His relationship with Angela, as I stated before, was one of
comic relief.  If there is a couple who argues this much, there will inevitably be some physical
confrontations as well.

Various Opinions about the movie
  • Gavin did deserve half of Janet's money for the book.  It is called alimony.
  • Angela should've hid out and caught Marcus red handed before doing her little thang
at his job.  But that's typical black female for you.
  • The Gossett/Tyson scenes in the movie were priceless.  The spilling of ashes on
Angela was hilarious and the Why Did I Get Married scene on the beach was so
touching that I almost cried.  This gave me an excellent idea for our next "Date Night".
  • The Rock enters for Why Did I Get Married 3.  If he plays a quiet type of guy that is
introverted and shy then his relationship with Patricia will work, but if they have him
come in as a strong-minded man, then I cannot see them building anything.
