Your advertisement in the July 29th edition of the ebulletin sparked my interest.  When I
read your list of qualifications and researched the school, I realized that someone with my
talents and abilities would be a tremendous asset to
Martha Ruggles Elementary School.

My philosophy on education stands on the belief that academic performance and student
behavior are intrinisically linked.  If children do not feel safe when coming to school, learning
will not take place.  With this in mind, I designed the
Positive Reinforcement Of Uniformed
Discipline (PROUD) Program.  By rewarding students for positive behavior and developing,
swift but fair, consequences for negative behavior we will focus on making the desired
behavior the norm, not the exception.  PROUD is not just and acronym, it is the way we
want all stakeholders to feel about Ruggles School.  There are three basic components of
the program, they are:

  1. Getting students involved in their education.
  2. Providing professional development in classroom management for teachers.
  3. Reaching out to involve parents and the community.

As administrators, we cannot spend better than 50% of our school day handling disciplinary
issues.  The safety of our staff and children has to be priority number one.  Having a plan in
place is critical to the success of a school.  With the PROUD Program already outlined and
ready to go, we have that plan.

As you will see in my resume, I have held various leadership positions.  I have worked on
leadership teams, interviewed teacher candidates, observed classrooms, offered
suggestions for improved instruction, worked as a mentor teacher, served as dean of
students, and assisted in the development of school improvement plans.  In short, my
teaching experiences have prepared me for the transition to administration.

I am sure you will receive many resumes for the position of
Assistant Principal at Ruggles
School.  But today, you have the opportunity to meet a young man with fresh ideas, and
innovative approach, and a strong desire devoted to the academic progress of all children.  I
look forward to meeting with you to provide further information on my candidacy.

Sincerely,

Charles L Moreland
